A well-written e-book can be a sustainable - often, fantastic - source of income for both the writer and the affiliate marketer. The secret is to tap into popular demands and deliver the promised information. Sometimes this is all it takes for an e-book to gain notoriety and earn the author a small fortune. Of course, writing a single e-book is rarely sufficient to sustain a rock star lifestyle, so I would like to turn our attention to a necessary consideration : The methods by which we generate traffic to our e-books.
As dating affiliates, writing dating e-books will give birth to further revenue-streams, imbued with the added bonus of providing a cathartic departure from the norm of promoting the various affiliate programs. The most common question I see asked by writers is how to get traffic to their literary marvels. Without keeping you waiting a moment longer, the two top answers are affiliates and more writing (article marketing). The list which follows is by no means definitive but should suffice to give you guidance and inspiration.
1. Get Affiliates
Do not rely on Click Bank to provide you with whales, capable of sending legions of hungry prospects. Take a proactive stance and go recruiting! Advertise your affiliate program (without spamming) in forums by creating threads in appropriate areas and designing an enticing signature. Send emails, make phone calls, use instant messengers. If you have internet real estate frequented by webmasters, promote your affiliate program there too. You only need a few good webmasters to develop a decent income. Without a doubt, however, the best way to get affiliates is to write a truly killer e-book.
2. Article Marketing
Many people try article marketing and give up after a week or two. The main reason for failure is, unquestionably, writing and submitting an insufficient amount of articles. It is this simple, folks : write several articles a day that target relevant keywords and submit them to the directories that matter. Keep at it for as long as you can. That small trickle of traffic you receive will, in only a few months, become a tsunami of filtered prospects.
3. Newsletters and Ezines
Create a newsletter on your site. If you already have one, replete with members of your target niche, that is even better. Encourage new subscribers by promising exiting information contained in your mailings, give away free reports to subscribers, setup competitions with prizes like your new, fantastic, super-duper e-book! Newsletters are truly amazing sales tools, so use them - just don’t go overboard.
4. Blogging (or, I was wondering when Kristian would mention blogs)
Let’s face it, you’re here reading this blog. Now if I told you I could show you a way to earn $5,000 a week, with an investment of nothing but time and $24.99 for my e-book, would you be interested? Maybe. If you read through Promote Dating and discovered a ton of ways to increase your earnings, you’d be even more inclined to buy. Yes? Blogs are, in my mind, possibly THE BEST sales tools invented for internet marketers. The are numerous ways to get traffic, plus they’re a forum where we can interact with our readers. A blog I read religiously is seo book by Aaron Wall, who sells the only book that matters on the subject of seo right there on his blog.
So blogs enable us to generate traffic and interact with our readers and potential e-book buyers. Every once in a while write posts based on parts of your e-book. Digg them, stumble them, so on, and you’ll see relevant traffic.
5. Paid and Exchange-Reviews
Source a number of blogs related to your topic and contact the authors to ask about a paid review. This is good for a nice burst of traffic in the short-term and consistent trickles over time. Another way is simply to offer an exchange of reviews with other bloggers or e-book writers. You could be reviewing a blog, an e-book or whatever they want you to push in exchange for your own review.
6. Word of Mouth
Write something worth knowing and people spread the word like summer flu. Trust me. On forums I’ll often see marketers asking about how to learn seo and, you guessed it, Aaron’s seo book is invariably mentioned (and for good reason). If your book is the first to address popular demand, or tackle a topic better than any before it, people will talk. Let’s face it, if I write that book on how to earn $5,000 a week, and it works, how long will it be before every forum in the webmaster world is talking about it? Pretty soon you might gain notoriety in the press, in college lecture halls, and before long find yourself paid to consult or dispense information in those same halls of learning - not the norm, sure, but it happens!
7. Paid Advertising
I’ve already mentioned paid reviews on other sites or blogs. You can also consider pay per click, banners, links, newsletters, feeds, forum signatures, sponsorship. Thinking out of the box you might also pay for custom blog themes or plugins that you release for free as a subtle means of promotion.
8. Ebay
I have tried two methods on ebay : straight-forward selling my e-book and selling a report for 99 cents which promotes by higher-priced book. The latter is the most effective method.
9. Yahoo Answers
Devote 20 minutes a day to answering on-topic questions that might relate to your e-book.
10. Amazon Reviews
Create a profile and review related products and produce lists. This is good for long-terms, quality traffic. The people coming to you from amazon are, more than likely, buyers with credit card in hand.
11. Testimonials
Give away free copies of your e-books in exhange for reviews that can be posted on forums and your own sites.
If you write a quality e-book, create an account with Click Bank (who give you a free affiliate program, process for you, do everything basically), and use the above 11 methods for generating e-book traffic, you will almost surely be successful. It just takes work, lots of work. I’m not one for get rich quick schemes. Personally, I tend to trust get rich slow by working long hours. Writing a dating e-book WILL become a sound business for those willing to put in the effort and follow the rules. Happy writing!
